Olá a todos!
Taking photos of your little ones is not always easy…
In this blog post, I’ll share five fun family photo ideas for Christmas that you can easily try at home with your smartphone — no need for professional equipment!
1. Christmas Ornaments
Let your child hold their favorite Christmas ornament.
For my son Harvey, a car works like a charm! Try focusing on the ornament rather than the face. On your smartphone, you can adjust the focal point by tapping the object you want to focus on. If you’re using Portrait mode, you can even adjust the aperture to make the background beautifully blurry.

2. The Reindeer
Have your little one hold a Christmas bauble in front of their nose to mimic a reindeer!
Make sure they grip the smaller part of the bauble with two fingers so their hand doesn’t cover the entire ornament.

3. Underneath the Christmas Tree
Ask your kids to lie on their backs under the Christmas tree.
You can use a chair or stool to elevate yourself while taking the photo. Aim to capture the tree covering half of the photo while focusing on your child’ faces. Adjust the focal point on your smartphone as needed for the best results.

4. Reflections
Use one of your shiny Christmas decorations to let the kids see their reflections.
They can pull funny faces for a guaranteed moment of laughter and a unique shot!

5. The Magic Box
Place some battery-powered Christmas lights inside a gift box and let your kids open it to create a magical effect. If you don’t have lights, you can use a smartphone with the flashlight turned on. Add some of their favorite candies inside the box along with the lights to capture a genuine, magical smile.

Timeless Black and White
If you can’t get the colors of your photo to look the way you want—or if Instagram filters aren’t doing the trick—try converting your photo to black and white. This will give it a classic, timeless feel.

Get Them Excited
Sometimes, showing your kids the photo idea on your smartphone before taking it helps them imagine themselves in the picture and gets them excited about it.
And let’s be honest, a little bribery with candy or ice cream never hurts! 😉
I have tons more ideas, but I recommend keeping your home photo session short and fun.
Who knows… Maybe I’ll create an e-book next year with all my ideas!

Did you know that I design a magical setting for family Christmas photos in my studio every year? It’s perfect for both children and adults, and it ensures that moms, who are usually the ones behind the camera, can finally be part of the photos too!
